Sometimes I get lucky at penny auctions, and last week was one of the best strokes of luck I ever had. I ended up winning an auction for a Macbook Pro, and it has just been delivered. It was love in first sight as I opened up the box and pulled out the aluminum-frame body of this amazingly cool machine. After I got it all set up I started wondering a little bit about the history of the Macbook Pro, and then I thought that I would share what I found out with you all as it is actually pretty interesting.
The first Macbook Pro came out in early 2006. The G4 PowerBook had pretty much outlived its stay in the hearts of Apple users and a suitable replacement was found in the Macbook Pro. The other reason for the new model was that Apple had just switched to new Intel processors, and it was necessary to revamp their product line in response to this new direction.
Like all Apple products, the second generation was a little bit better. It seems to me that if you just wait a few months after Apple releases a new product to jump on board, you are going to be getting something better for your patience. This rule applies with the Macbook Pro, as in just a few short months users had a choice of a 17-inch model in addition to the 15-inch standard, and a little while later, they received Core 2 Duo processors, which improved the performance.
One of the main features of the New Macbook Pro is the unibody design made of aluminum. It is a sleek, thin machine, but is slightly wider than its PowerBook predecessor, due to the widescreen functionality. The trackpad has evolved with time, and is now larger than it has ever been, to allow users to scroll and use the interface in much the same way that they would with an iPhone, or an iPad. And you still get that backlit keyboard that makes your computer the coolest-looking machine on the block.
The Macbook has seen a lot of changes in the last five years, and with this model, you get the best of everything that Apple has ever put into a portable computer.
